You better get ready for him, cause he's gonna take you back to the past.

The Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN for short) is a web series featured on Cinemassacre and YouTube, starring James Rolfe.

The series is about a foul-mouthed nerd who plays old and terrible video games and takes gaming very seriously. In some cases, the nerd will face supernatural things that happen while he plays crappy games. Occasionally, people like Pat the NES Punk and Lloyd Kaufman make guest appearances.

AVGN is heavily responsible for popularizing internet reviews and many gamers such as Jontron and AlphaOmegaSin have since joined the mantle. While the focus for AVGN is comedy, it is still a review show and he still gives some valid points towards a game. His series is mainly targeted towards retro gamers due to his preference towards older games and consoles.

He also popularized video game collecting, since he stated that he wanted to preserve the past for future generations.

Even though he mainly talks about terrible games, his videos have helped sparked renewed interest in older games and he has given praise where praise is due such as when he stated that the Virtual Boy did have good games. Some of his episodes can also cover events in gaming history.

Mr. Rolfe has stated multiple times that while making AVGN is very taxing, and while his uploads are far less frequent nowadays, he deeply enjoys the series and has no intention to quit despite some of the newer episodes suggesting otherwise

The series also spawned two spin-offs called Board James and James and Mike Mondays. It also got two games based on the series, Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures and Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures 2: The ASSimilation as well as a film titled Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie.
