Nobuo Uematsu is a video game composer that worked with Square-Enix and is known for composing music for the Final Fantasy series. He joined Square in 1986 and left in 2004 to create his own production company.

Why He Rocks

  1. Completely self-taught. He began playing piano at age 12.
  2. Made a large number of musical scores for the Final Fantasy series and thus made some of the best musical scores in gaming.
  3. Many of his musical scores are used in concerts.
  4. Though he is now freelance and can do work on other games besides ones made by Square-Enix, he still does music for Final Fantasy.
  5. Has also worked on other games, such as Blue Dragon and The Last Story.
  6. The most recognized composer for video games in history.
  7. Has been composing music for video games for over 30 years.


He has been called the Beethoven of the video game industry and has appeared fives times in the top 20 of the annual Classic FM Hall of Fame.
